2008 Spring Schedule
March
8 (Sat) Vernal pools, natural springs, wet meadows hike in the Laughlin Ridge watershed on eastside of ranch. Hike climbs 1,000 ft. over 3 miles, 6 miles round trip; moderate.
16 (Sun) Strictly for the birds, and bugs, and wild flowers. Bird watching in oak woodlands and stream riparian areas along Forsythe Cr. Walk 1 mile round trip; easy. Start time 9 a.m.
29 (Sat) Animal tracking mud walk along dirt roads to 2nd growth redwood grove with trilliums, redwood sorrel, ferns, and lichens. Hike 5 miles round trip; moderate.
April
5 (Sat) See March 29.
12 (Sat) Ranch history and nature walk past pioneer cemetery, Indian campsite, Seabiscuit's barn and statue. Walk 3 miles round trip;easy.
13 (Sun) See April 12.
19 (Sat) Turtle pond wild flower walk. Observe, smell, and maybe even a taste of Spring's bounty. Walk 1.5 miles round trip; easy.

3 (Sat) White deer lake wild flower walk. Thru wild flower meadows and oak woodlands along the lake shore. Hike 4 miles round trip; moderate.

31 (Sat) Lilies of the field. Glorious wild flower walk along dirt roads and thru open meadows. Walk 3.5 miles round trip; easy.
June
8 (Sun) See May 31.
14 (Sat)Indian springs hike. Thru 2nd growth redwoods, mixed hardwoods, and fir forests to a
summer Indian campsite above Walker valley. Hike 5.5 miles round trip and 650 ft; moderate.

Knowledgeable naturalists, herbalists, birders, and animal trackers are
along on most trips.
Start time is 10 am. except when noted. Outing duration will vary from 3 to
6 hours. Children
10 and older are welcome. Each trip registration limit is 12 persons.
Proper footwear is essential;
early spring trips can be muddy good fun, and some have creek crossings.
Wear appropriate (layered)
clothing. Protect yourself from sun, rain, mosquitoes, ticks, and poison
oak. In your pack carry water
and energy snacks. You may also want to bring your camera, binoculars,
magnifier, and field guide.
